Hitachi is known for the durability of its tools, and they manufacture some of the most outstanding tools in terms of reliability, efficiency, and performance, all at the same time.

Yet, there are certainly a number of other aspects that will make you choose the Hitachi tools, such as the extensive battery life on the cordless tools that will easily outperform all such problems that you might be facing with the other tools.

That is particularly great, but the best part is that you also get a charger from Hitachi that will help you to enjoy the right perfection and experience with charging the battery.

The Hitachi 18 V battery chargers are some of the most durable ones that you get to enjoy, but there are also certain issues that you might have to face on the Hitachi battery charger if you are using them for charging the batteries on your cordless tools.

The charger might not be charging the batteries properly due to some reason, and you should be optimally taken care of that.

That is why you need to fix all such problems, and a few of those common problems that might be causing your Hitachi battery charger to not work are:

  1. Check the Battery

energy battery

The chargers are not wearable components, and that is pretty great, so the chargers are not likely to go bad over time if you are taking optimal care of them.

That is why you will need to be particularly careful about the battery and ensure that your battery is in optimal health.

There can be several reasons for the battery to be not working, and you need to check on all of them.

First of all, you will need to ensure that you are checking on the temperature levels since the battery will not charge if it is too cold or too hot, and you need to make sure that you are keeping the right temperature for your batteries to be working in the right manner.

After that, you will also need to check on the voltage levels, and if the battery is too deeply discharged, you need to give it some time that will make the levels optimal for you to be working, and the battery will start charging in the right manner.

Lastly, battery health is also important, and you should ensure that you are checking on the battery health and replacing the battery if the health deteriorates beyond a certain measure. That will efficiently help you in getting the problem solved.

  1. Power Cord

Another common problem faced on the Hitachi battery chargers is the power cord, and that is something that you will need to be careful about taking care of.

The power cord might be broken at some point, getting damaged due to the friction, or at times, sharp bends on the power cord can also cause you to have a number of problems that you should efficiently be fixing.

So, you should inspect the power cord properly, and that should be the best thing for you to ensure that you can figure out the problem, if any.

While you can get the power cord repaired, it would be better for you to make it right with a power cord replacement, and that should get you the perfect experience with your Hitachi charger.

It all comes down to how you’re planning on tackling the situation. We suggest that you reach out to the official support team to get a replacement if the charger was damaged out of the box.

The warranty will cover these issues, and you will not have to go through the hassle yourself.

This brand stands behind all of its units, and you will be fully covered by the warranty. So, all that you need to do is to call the dealer, and he will enable you with a fresh piece after verifying your purchase.

You can also provide valid proof of purchase like a receipt to speed up the process.

  1. Corrosion on the Terminals

Lastly, you might be having some problems with the terminals, and that might have been causing you to face this issue with the charger not working.

So, you will need to start by checking for corrosion on the terminals and cleaning them with some rubbing alcohol to ensure that you can get the corrosion of the terminals of your charger efficiently. After that, you can get the charger to work in the right manner.

After you have cleared out the corrosion, you will also need to be careful about the terminals getting bent or something like that.

That is why you will need to ensure that you are checking on that as well and straightening out all such terminals, and that should help you to make the charger work again.

  1. Heating Issues

Next, you need to take a peek at the heating situation with the charger. This can be more related to the ignored maintenance, and it is usually not that hard to fix on your own.

So, you will have an effortless experience as you try to set up this unit one more time.

All that you need to do here is to wipe away the dust and the grime from the unit. We all know that the situation around the workshop can get a bit rough at times.

overheat

There is not a single brand on the market or any single unit that can work well when you’re ignoring maintenance.

So, be sure to keep that in mind when you can’t seem to get any performance out of the unit. It all comes down to how you’re planning on adjusting to the situation, and keeping track of the weekly maintenance cycle is the best method.

That way, you will also get a better lifespan out of the charger and won’t have to think about replacing the unit.

Hopefully, that will be it as you’re trying to adjust to this situation, and you can also keep your unit stored properly to avoid issues with overheating.

  1. Loose Screws

Some owners have also pointed out issues with the loose screws on this unit. It might not seem like that serious of an issue, but it can lead to a ton of problems down the road. So, you will have to go about adjusting the situation with the unit accordingly.

The only fix here is to tighten up the screws properly and keep the unit clean.

Make sure that the unit is not connected to the power supply as you’re trying to tighten up the loose connections. From there, you will not have to worry about moisture or performance-related issues.

  1. Storage Problems

One of the most important pointers to keep in mind regarding this unit is that you need to store it properly. Ideally, you need to keep it in a secure storage box, away from moisture and extreme temperatures.

That will be more than enough to help you keep this unit functioning properly.

However, most owners make the mistake of leaving this charger out in the open. That damages the terminals of the unit and interrupts power flow from the charger to the battery.

So, you will need to avoid this situation if you’re aiming for long-term performance.

Ignoring the storage and the maintenance will only lead to issues with the charger, and there is no quick method that can help you maneuver around these pointers.

It all comes down to how you’re planning on adjusting the situation with the charger.

If everything goes well, you will not have to deal with more complications down the road. However, if you’re still struggling with the performance, be sure to ask the official support team to help you here.

They will make your job much easier, and you will not have to go at these fixes on your own.

Wrapping Up

conclusion

These are some pointers that you need to consider when putting your money on the Hitachi battery charger.

As long as you’re a bit mindful of the maintenance, you will avoid almost all of the issues mentioned above. So, be sure to educate yourself on the proper care requirements.

If everything goes well, you will have an effortless experience with charging your batteries at a quicker pace. You will not feel the need to change the charger for years, and this unit will keep you served with the ideal performance.

However, if you find there to be hardware issues with the unit or any kind of damage to the charger itself, then you need to call for a replacement.

There are no quick methods that can help you deal with those issues, and you need to inform the experts right away.

If your claim is valid, you will be able to grab a fresh piece in no time. It will take less than 5 days to get the new unit after the claim has been verified.

So, be sure to reach out to the dealer, and he will guide you accordingly on how to go about fixing these errors.

  1. My UC 18 YKSL charger recently got wet whilst being stored in the garage – I took it apart and dried it with some kitchen roll, and I thought I had got it dry (probably should have left it to air dry overnight) but when I switched it on it made a loud “pop” and now it doesn’t seem to be working (the red LED is no longer lighting up). Does anyone know how I can go about troubleshooting it, please (I have a basic multimeter)?
There don’t seem seem to be any burned areas on the PCB, and my first thought is that the “pop” could have been the T3.15 Amp fuse blowing, which sits on the PCB, just after the point where the brown positive wire comes in from the mains power cord.
