More specifically, their DeWalt FlexVolt battery is causing all kinds of problems for them.

Using the article, we will be giving you a list of ways how you can fix some of the most common problems with DeWalt batteries. So, without wasting any more time, let’s get right into it!

1. Battery Not Charging

Battery not being able to charge at all is one of the most common problems that you might run into while using a DeWalt FlexVolt.

According to the users who were experiencing this issue, their battery remains at a single bar, and the battery won’t charge itself.

Some even reported having their charger blink before it shuts itself off. While there could be plenty of reasons behind what caused your battery to not charge, we recommend that the first thing you check are the battery terminals.

Try cleaning the battery terminals to see if that has any kind of effect at all. Similarly, you will also have to make sure that you completely fit the battery inside the charger.

If not, then it won’t be able to charge your battery like it’s supposed to.  Lastly, ensure that you are using the correct charger for charging your batteries.

2. Battery Won’t Last

Another common issue with these batteries is that they won’t last for too long before needing to be charged again. Luckily, there’s certainly something that you can do about it, provided that the batteries haven’t received any kind of damage.

low battery

First of all, we suggest following the correct method for charging your batteries which are as follows:

  • Start by discharging the battery. Proceed on to removing the batteries.
  • Keep the battery on the charger for around 2 hours. The battery should be able to reach room temperature at this point.
  • Now, place your battery inside the charger and let it charge overnight.

If this does not seem to do anything or improve your battery timings, it is highly likely that the battery you are using is damaged or may have reached its life span. In both cases, you will have to opt for a complete replacement.

3. Batteries Not Working at All

One thing to keep in mind is that just like any other electrical appliance, batteries also have a limited life span and usability before they start acting up.

That being said, batteries also tend to get damaged over time which may cause irregularities in their behavior. It may even end up making your battery completely useless.

Old Battery

If you notice your battery is not working at all, then try charging it. If it refuses to charge, try using a spare battery on your tool. If it works, then it is highly likely that your battery is either damaged or has gone bad.

In either case, you will have to get a replacement for the battery. We’re afraid repairing the battery is not really an option here. Do make sure that you get the correct batteries fully supported by the tool you are planning to use them on.

How Long Does The Battery Take To Charge?

The battery uptime depends entirely on environmental conditions. You won’t be able to get any response from the unit when the temperature is at either extreme.

So, if the storage conditions are too cold or too hot, the battery charging time will vary greatly.

With that said, you can expect around 80 minutes of charging time in optimal conditions.

So, you won’t need more than an hour of charging time when managing this system. From there, you can get started with your project b using the FlexVolt battery.

If there are any hardware issues with the battery or it seems to be water damaged, your best bet is to call customer support for help. This brand maintains one of the most consistent customer care services.

So, if you’re new to the market and can’t seem to find the right fit, FlexVolt will serve you perfectly.

You just have to reach out to the dealer, and they will help you get a replacement. The warranty is good for at least a year.

So, if it has not been that long since the purchase, just forward a warranty claim, you will have a new pack within the same week.

Once the battery is fully charged, you can expect around 2 hours of uptime. However, if the load is too much for the battery, this two-hour battery life will drop down to 40 minutes. From there, you will have to recharge the battery one more time.

battery charge

If you’re not getting this minimum of 40 minutes of uptime from the battery, then your device is defective, or the charger is to blame here.

You have to make sure that the charger is in good shape and that the power supply from the source is optimal.

You can either rely on a multimeter or call an electrician to help with the maintenance of the electrical connections.

He will help you optimize and service these connections. Moreover, you won’t have to put yourself at risk when using this device.

Is This Battery Better Than Milwaukee High Demand?

Finding the right battery takes a lot of research into the power requirements of your tools.

If you’re only looking for a higher battery capacity, then there is no point in going with the FlexVolt system. There is no debate that the battery capacity is not short with this pack, but it can be compared to Milwaukee.

So, if you’re in this situation with the battery capacity being a bit limited on your FlexVolt pack, now might be a good idea to switch.

Whoever that is not the only factor that you need to consider. When you’re talking pure power and output, DeWalt is the only valid player.

There is no brand that can keep up with the consistent output brought forward by the DeWalt system. So, keep that in mind and test out different devices one by one.

You’ll notice much better power stats in every unit. Moreover, the price point is also pretty reasonable.

It all comes down to the requirements you’re looking for. For some owners, DeWalt is the better option, while others prefer Milwaukee. So, there are no set criteria for which device you will have to choose for your power tools.

So, Which One Should You Choose?

Once you’re sure about the power requirements and the battery capacity, it is not that hard to find the right fit. Ideally, going with options like DeWalt is the best bet when you’re aiming for high power and short up-time.

On the other hand, if you’re aiming for high up-time with a bit lower power status, there is no harm in going with the Milwaukee system. If you can’t seem to judge the requirements of your tools, you should reach out to a local expert.

He will make it much easier to find the perfect fit. Moreover, it never hurts to get help from a professional.

He will guide you much better on how to take care of your machine. So, don’t hesitate to reach out to your local experts. They will guide you much better on this decision.

Lastly, the difference is not that significant for most owners. So, if you’re looking for something to help you through minor projects, going with either one will serve you well. Hopefully, you won’t have to worry about any performance-related errors.
