DeWalt DWS780 Slide Issue? Here’s The Fix

The top-of-the-line model lets you down on first cut. You’ve bought into their name. They’re supposed to be reliable.

But as soon as you start cutting with a DeWalt DWS780 blade, it’ll wobble on the rails. That’s not just irritating; that’s a material-killer and potential safety risk. What did you pay for?

Precision. And what do you get? Inconsistency.

Most of the time problem with sliding action can be resolved. Nine times out of ten saw just was not built right and there is no reason it cannot be made to function properly. Sometimes they loosens up in shipping but sometimes factory got away from their tolerance stack up on assembly.

Diagnosing Sliding Table Wobble

Examine carriage bolts attaching sliding table to main body. This is where your saw loads when cutting. When the bolts gets loose, entire assembly flexes.

That’s what you’ll notice right away. With hex key, tighten them, but don’t overtighten. The threads can strips and then you have more than a bolt tightening problem, you’re replacing a part.

Lubricating the Gear Mechanism

Lubricate moving parts of the gear mechanism with light machine oil or white lithium grease. Don’t use WD-40. WD-40 is a solvent, not an oil.

It will strip what’s already there and leave things even dryer. With proper lubrication, slide will move with even resistance throughout its entire range of motion. Make sure table is level with the floor.

Side load on rails can distort and give unevven feel after you adjust alignment. Level your saw using adjustable feet. Run a spirit level from end to end along the table top.
