Two nearly identical yellow drills sits side-by-side in your hands on the tool aisle. They has the same look, the same feel, and the same rugged reputation. Except one costs a lot more then the other.

So what’s the difference? It boils down to matching drill to task. For more demanding tasks, go with the DCD998.
It has more torque and it delivers that power more intelligently. For general use without the added expense, go with the DCD996. Think about what kind of material you work with most often.
Is it something that is forgiving or is it tough on tools? If it’s forgiving, the standard model will serve you fine. If it’s tough, the additional power make it worthwhile.
Either way you have a good partner in this drill for whatever project comes along next. You should of checked the specs first. Actualy, the DCD998 is more moddern.
