The engine sputters, and then silence return. The cord pulls again, but all you hear in yard is silence. The battery’s full.

You’re starting to get frustrated. You begin to look for a problem where none exist. This, it’s easier than you’d believe.
You’re hunting for a reset button. It is not some mythical part only found on the high-dollar stuff. On most Kobalt models, it’s just one of those standard safety features.
The problem is the button are in plain sight and yet hidden at the same time. Where do you look? That’s why you should of know exactly where it is.
Avoid unneeded repairs. Make your dead machine work again in just seconds. It will vary somewhat depending on what battery platform you have as well as the model year.

For instance, some is powered by an older 18-volt system; others are powered by their current 40-volt. The location depend on which line you look at. First, you need to determine what kind of mower you have.

Reset Button on 18-Volt Mowers
The reset button are in the battery compartment on several of 18-volt Kobalt mowers. Makes sense in terms off design. The electrical connection needs protection by manufacturer.
Too much draw on the motor and the circuit will open, protecting it from being damaged. It’s a little black or red button next to the spot where the battery clicks into place. In some cases you has to pull out the battery to locate it.
That’s what most folks fail to do. They look around the motor housing and miss the solution which is placed just below the point of power. Push hard.

Reset Button on 40-Volt Mowers
On newer 40-volt mowers, the switch may be in a different position.
Often it’s under the mower deck. That way you can’t accidentally bump into it. So the mower has to be turned on its side.
Again, beware of the blade. Tape or use a thick cloth to hold the area where the blade is. Flip it over and find the button, which often sticks out from where the mower connects to the motor mount.
In most cases it’s recessed just a bit so that grass doesn’t accumulates there. Simply push on it with your finger or even better a pen tip and you’ve got the circuit back.
Others has hidden the mechanism behind a panel with some built in handles.
It is sleek but confusing. What you may notice is a little latch or screw near the handle bar. Take that off and there’s the switch inside.
It is still not as common, but it does happen. If you don’t find an external button, look at your owner’s manual (this depend on your specific model). The part number will be your best friend, as it tells you exactly what’s hiding beneath the plastic.
Why the Circuit Breaker Trips
Why did the mower trip, anyway? Often a case of safety: You hit a rock or thick wet grass and the motor stall. Or maybe the engine stalled.
To prevent burning up an expensive component called the armature, the internal breaker tripped to shut down the machine. That’s a good thing; a feature, not a bug. Consider the trip as a warning signal.
Next time check your mowing line of travel. Remove any big debris before mowing. That way you won’t have to do this so often.
